Frills Friday: Fierce Casual

Although seemingly an odd pair of words - fierce and casual - those were the two words that came to mind when I saw this coordinate. Her persona and looks were very fierce and confident, whereas her outfit was casual and relaxed. It is a striking combination. The sandals are especially cute. Enjoy this Frills Friday addition!

Thrills Thursday: BtSSB Clockwork Tea Party Reservations, Elder Scrolls Voice Over Actors Revealed, IW Halloween Special Set (Lucky Pack), Bodyline Releases

Baby, the Stars Shine Bright in San Francisco, CA is beginning to take reservations for the print on Friday, September 30th. The print does not look much different to me compared to other Sweet prints released by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, but it could appeal to a different crowd.

Lolita 101: What is a "Lucky Pack"?

Do you have a question about Lolita fashion? Ask here.

From my Metamorphose 2010 Lucky Pack
Lucky packs are special sales Lolita fashion brands do usually during the summer and during the winter near the holidays. These lucky packs can contain as little as a couple accessories to as much as several dresses, skirts, blouses, and more. Usually, these lucky packs contain pieces that the brand has excess of. These lucky packs are sold at prices 50% or more lower than the cost of all items in the lucky pack. (Example: you could get a dress, skirt, and blouse valued at $500 USD, but you only paid $150 for the lucky pack). The catch is that you cannot specify the items you get in the pack (more details below).

Each brand is different on what they sell with lucky packs, but below is a general summary of what Lolita brands typically do for lucky packs. Please remember that this is a general overview, and that at one point in time, each brand may have done something different.

Being Badass: Having Self Confidence

There is no switch that you can flip to turn on self-confidence. It is not an easy thing to get a hold of, but it is really necessary. You have this one life to do things that inspire you and make you happy, and using it to make others accepting of you makes your life pointless.

It is also difficult to talk about this topic without sounding like the stereotypical, "You are unique, yay!" speech, but it is a stereotype for a reason. It is true! I feel everyone has their own thing that they contribute to the world, as small or large as it may be.

We are in a society where what you do is measured by how many it affects, but why should we overlook the small changes? Just because you only affected one life, does not mean that it is insignificant because you did not affect a hundred. That one life is changed, and your affect on them may help one other person (or maybe a hundred).

To be honest, I think being different today is much easier than being different was when I was a kid, or when my parents were kids (and I hope my kids say the same about my generation). When I was a kid, wearing what you want, doing what you want, and saying what you want was not a good thing. Now, I feel with the influx of Facebook, YouTube, and other social media, being unique is prime because you want your status, video, or tweet to stand out from the rest of the mob of same old, same old.

Frills Friday: Red Rose Decadence

Deep in red, this outfit would be difficult to pull off for most, but she handled the heavy piece well. The silver Mary Janes would not have been my first choice, but I like the contrast. It gives the solid red piece some life as the shoes bring out the silver lining in the print itself. Enjoy this Frills Friday addition!

Thrills Thursday: EGL Shutdown, Meta Night of the Masquerade, AP Classic Print, AatP Tan Bag

The EGL LiveJournal community has shut down for a week (tentatively) until they have made updates they need to do to the community. This has been a long time coming, as the updates necessary to the community have been piling up, and with the limited amount of moderators, it was bound to need this shut down to focus on all the current updates without worrying about current posts. This includes all sister communities (egl_sales_comm and egl_feedback).

Frills Friday: Feathery Silent Moon

Silent Moon seems like it should be a heavily Gothic piece, but this outfit showcases the print in a beautiful Shiro tone. I love the ankle socks, but also the type of ankle socks (lacey). Her outfit as a whole is very wispy and light, and I feel like opaque socks would have weighed down the outfit. I love the use of the feathery shawl as well to give it a bit more shape and texture. Enjoy this Frills Friday addition!

Thrills Thursday: Meta Lucky Pack, IW Winter Restock, AP Cardigan Release

Metamorphose released a small lucky pack sale of their Pin-Tuck Pinafore Lace Dress and a pair of socks for 15000 yen. You can pick the color of the dress in black, white, or antique white, but not the color of the socks. It is basically getting the socks for free. I am not sure it is worth getting this lucky pack, but here is the link for it if you're interested.

Wedding: Sleeved Wedding Dresses

The dress buying process, especially if you enjoy Lolita fashion and other similar fashions, can turn into a big headache. I personally love sleeved wedding dresses.

When I say this, I do not mean the typical sleeved wedding dresses of the 1980s with giant shoulder pads and over the top lace. I do mean pieces like these below:

From Wedding4Teen.com
From WeddingInspirasi
From DetroitWedding
I found several photos for ideas of dresses online, but when I actually went to boutiques, the selection was limited. There was only a couple things that bothered me while looking for a sleeved gown, and two reactions I received were:

"What are you, 40 years old?"

"You know, it's very difficult to find a sleeved dress. Why don't we put you in a strapless dress with a jacket or caplet on top?"

Instead of wanting to help me out, I got a lot of rejections and snubbed noses. Trudging on, I eventually found a place that had a more traditional selection of dresses instead of high fashion modern, and I was able to find my dress - exactly what I wanted, no compromises.

My mother is making me keep it secret until the wedding, but yes, it is definitely long sleeved.

I will tell you, after my experience searching for my dress, not to be discouraged after the first few stores of finding nothing. Do not compromise and change what you really want because you think no one has a dress you like. Your dress is out there - you just have to find it!

What is your ideal wedding dress? If you are already married, what did you end up picking out? Provide pictures if you can!

Being Badass: You are Awesome

Yes, you. You are an awesome human being.

You do not need me to tell you that you are awesome, because you do not need my validation.

Look in the mirror. Check out that sexy beast! Every inch of you is something created by the wonders of science (or religious supreme being) that has yet to be found on any other planet millions of light years all around us.

Guess what? There is only one of you! Even if you are a twin, you are absolutely unique. The way you feel, think, act, look, and more is completely up to you and yours to shape. Your interests are yours to develop and love. Your desires and ambitions can be as lofty (or un-lofty) as you wish.

Seriously. You are awesome. Is it not fantastic?

So what if the person down the street will not wave high to you? So what if that person cut you off while you were driving? Oh well - you found out that instead of working all week, you were only able to get half the shifts you wanted.

At the end of the day, you were born, you existed, and you affected this world. You walked on that grass. You lived in that apartment. You were your mother's child. You exist, and no one else can be you.

Do not change for those around you. Do not change because it is easier, convenient, soothing, smoother, causes less ripples in the water, or makes everyone else leave you alone. The worst thing you can do is be anything less than you want to be, because you have then given up the only thing about you that you can completely control - yourself!

In summation - as major life events approach in my own personal life - I want this entry to stand and remind me why I am who I am. I hope this entry can inspire you as much as it does me.

Frills Friday: Pink Starry Night Theater Ero

This outfit breaks the stereotypical Lolita boundaries and works great! The hairstyle is fun and flirty like the outfit, and the appliques on her legs give a great illusion of stockings. The tie gives some life to the bare top, and bring together the whole theme. Enjoy this Frills Friday addition!

Thrills Thursday: IW High Cut Dress, Peace Now Store Opening, 1TB Drive $30 Off

Innocent World released this gem a few days ago. As a summery dress, the southern hemisphere can appreciate it for their upcoming summer season, while the northern hemisphere can easily pair a nice blouse or cardigan with this. I love the belt especially - I always used to pair belts with my Lolita outfits to accentuate the waist even further.

Peace Now will be opening their San Francisco, USA branch tomorrow, September 9th, 2011. For those who are unable to get to San Francisco (like myself), you can go to their store website opening September 11th, 2011.

From EGL LiveJournal community
I do prefer solid state drives for my laptop's main hard drive, so that programs are easily accessed, but when it comes to storage, there is nothing better than the standard hard drive right now. Especially now that the prices are getting cheaper and cheaper as solid state gets more and more popular. Right now you can pick up this terabyte drive for $30 USD cheaper than usual, and I plan on picking up one myself.
